It looks like Jonny Mendez is going to be one of my favorite characters going forward. Andre knocked it out of the park with the first book of this series. Without giving too much away, a well ,meaning drifter stumbles across a drug ring, crooked DEA agents, etc. Very fast moving, and holds the secrets right to the end. I highly recommend.

Wow, well this author has gone into thriller writing in a big way. It’s a serious shift from the other books they have written and all the better for it, that is not to say the other series weren’t good cos they were. This one is up there with the best of them it’s that good. I was enthralled from the first page to the last, I loved it. This is another series that should run and run. What’s going to happen in the next one though. Highly recommended.

A great book from Andre which is not his normal genre. If you like Jack Reacher as a character and his stories then you will enjoy this first book in the Jonny Mendez series. Jonny is ex Seal and ex CIA and gets involved in removing a drug cartel from a small Californian town. There is action aplenty in this well written enjoyable thriller.

Wow this is a great book. I didn’t want to put it down. Jonny is a complex character. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Absolutely fantastic, full of suspense and secrets. Jonny seems to be the one accused of a crime and constantly danger seems to surround him. An amazing start to a new series.

I loved this wonderful introduction to Jonny Mendez! Jonny is a tough guy with a heart of gold. My eyes were glued to the page. The perfect blend of action, suspense and humor. I can’t wait to read Jonny’s next adventure! Andre Gonzalez never disappoints.

Loved meeting Jonny…. A dark, mysterious character, that men fear and women love.
The storyline had me hooked from page one and although I managed to guess some of the twists in the tale, I was still surprised by others.
Can’t wait to see where he ends up next and whether he ever sees Lily, or Andres again.

The protagonist is similar to the Jack Reacher character – an ex-military loner with no fixed address just traveling around and attracting trouble. I have read and enjoyed the entire Reacher series of books and I enjoyed this novel as well. I found the writing to be, at times, more humorous than the Reacher novels, which I feel is a good thing. I hope that it is going to be a long series, and I am looking forward to reading the next one.

DEA investigator accepts help from ex-SEAL to try to stop a drug cartel – 4.5 stars
Just a few minutes after hitchhiking into the California town of Hillcrest, Jonny Mendez sees a gangland-style execution of two Hispanic men as they left the bar. Jonny was picked up for questioning because he “seemed suspicious” and was also of Hispanic origin. After the local police released Jonny, two agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) who had been looking into a connection with a drug cartel, most likely run from Mexico started questioning him. Was it a coincidence that there was a drug cartel headed by a Mexican with the same last name as Jonny?
Jonny’s career included credentials of being a college graduate with a degree in criminal justice, a navy SEAL and several years as a CIA agent. Yet, he seemed to be a loner on a mission of extrajudicial house cleaning. He had no qualms about taking out bad guys in ways that were not permitted in the law enforcement profession. Yet, after checking Jonny’s background, the officials seemed to realize that Jonny did not mind taking matters into his own hands, no matter how unorthodox.
A relationship was developing between one DEA agent (Lily Sutton) and Jonny. The other DEA agent (Hunter Duncan) seemed to have an instant dislike for Jonny. The story was told from Jonny’s perspective, so we learn about Jonny’s fondness for certain foods, spending time as a gym rat, and his focus on removing bad guys. Adding to the mix of issues, Jonny and Lily seemed to be starting a relationship beyond the basics of the criminal investigation.
As more people were murdered and Jonny just happened to be in the vicinity of at least one murder, the town of Hillcrest no longer seemed to be a sleepy beach town. There was evidence of drug activity with a teenager who over dosed. Jonny found that the local hamburger place was an outlet for drugs without prescriptions. Then Hillcrest’s new police chief was gunned down.
As Jonny gathered information about the cartel, there was no doubt that Jonny was related by to the cartel kingpins; they were family. Many adventures ensued in which Jonny out muscled several drug cartel people, even when they outnumbered him. Jonny had no tolerance for holding back once a bad guy showed his alliances.
A scripted showdown did not go as planned. The cartel had over 20 well equipped soldiers. Jonny started out with one support person. Surprises and bullets erupted. Death was the only certainty. Enjoy this thriller!
